Stencils offer the most straight-forward way to get an image from “idea” to disc. Modern cutting machines make it possible to cut incredibly complex stencils in a matter of minutes. The real challenge is getting the image to the point of production.
I love the challenge of getting an image ready for a disc. I use Photoshop to meticulously clean up each image, pains-takingly editing each image line by line. I have been utilizing photoshop for disc-golf related projects since 1997, when I first created logos for the San Francisco Disc Golf Club. I created the stamps for the 1999 and 2000 San Francisco Safari, and still use Photoshop regularly for my full-time work.
If you have something extremely specific you would like to see on a disc, using a stencil is a great place to start. For a great example of the many steps involved in getting a stencil just right, check out the project I did for PoCaWoCha V.
